The biggest problem I have when flying is compensating for roll on the mouse. I'm more used to playing games where roll is bound to the keyboard and yaw to the mouse, but QW does it the other way around.

I notticed that also, but I have played some flight simmulators that have this same setup, one right off the top of my head is an oldie, LHX attack chopper, (Mid to late 80's game. Back when I had my Tandy 1000 HX PC.)

Perhaps I'm just weird, but I've always found it easier flying hover-type vehicles with a k+m setup (with the current ET:QW configuration). Perhaps it was my time flying the bass-ackwards gunships in BF 2142, or having to compensate for the ultra-touchy controls of the choppers in Project Reality (BF2).
Nice work on the video DreAdeDcoRpSE ![]() |

One thing I noticed is that you're only using Strocket, switch between Strocket and Plasma cannon to improve your firepower. Other than that flying is a lot about getting used to the controls, simply seeing how the aircraft reacts during different maneuvers can help you keep the bird in the air while bombarding the enemy below and avoiding incoming projectiles.
Also the Tormentor thread has some quite useful tips although not all of it is entirely true on Valley. |

Yeah, Reason for not switching between the various types of rockets is cause I didnt know I could. But I did figure it out yesturday when I was flying around. For a while my main goal was to get flying down, but now I know I can change between weapons. Thanks for the complements on the video, I was bored and I kept hearing from a bunch of my friends saying they cant fly very well. Actually 2 of my friends couldn't figure out how to go forward. So I decided to make this for them, thats why the title is the way it is, it was just a joke towards them.

Yeah you should pop this on Youtube. Other than that good job. If you want to see some pwnage you should check out DomMafia's tormentor video.

You should make a video of how to fly both. They are pretty different IMO but very balanced.
Dogfighting to me is currently the funnest thing in the game. Rarely do I get a good fight where neither of us is being harassed by RL's/Obliterators and AVT's though. Anansi is definitely faster and easier to hit and run with I'd say. It's balanced on Valley with that you need to shift and get out quickly without getting hit by Obliterators, AVT's or smashing into the Contaminator building or the many many poles around the generator. The Anansi's real strength lies in that IMO it is the single best deployable killer in the game. One LAW will disable a radar, one LAW+a full rocket barrage(everything hitting) will disable most other deployables. Something you can do in one pass at full speed if you don't wait for the lockon before firing then immediately switch to the rockets and fire them all off. Tormentor is more maneuverable and I think it's easier to solo kill a Titan than it is to solo kill a Cyclops with Anansi. Tormentor is probably the better one for making a real nuisance of yourself, especially on Valley. Both of them are extremely deadly and can easily turn the match in their sides favor with a skilled user. Dom's video is evidence of this. I'd say flying either of them the thing you need to watch out for most is RL's/Obliterators. Within a certain range there's really no way to escape them. That said. I prefer the Anansi, hands down. nice vid.
i prefer tormentor because i started with it in sewers. it wasnt as agile back then but i got titans blown up and dodged their shots. thanks for reminding the tormentor thread, i made it back in the sewer days, but now ill add more hints as i have learned a couple f things, like how to successfully kill a titan with no problems(almost...). also i kinda noticed you had no advanced controls, every time you turned your nose down etc the game started to move it back. everyone with an hour behind the tormentor/anasi should turn it on. the anasi has much stronger reverse thrust, it almost works as an air brake. the anasi weapons have less splash damage, and the LAW reloads slower. sometimes its sad to see someone hop in it and bail out when they reach the shield gen, they should take out deployables and some strogg before they do that.

murka10, I do most of the time have advanced controls off for reasons that I seem to be able to manover in the sewer better with it on, yes, thats right, I fly right into the sewer with the bumblebee. So far out of everyone I know and everyone I have seen, Nobody has done that but me. I did it for reasons that the boat was gone, I had a full load, and to many AVT around. So I decided to give it a try and what you know, I barely fit. But I got me and 4 others to the other side, and up to the shiel generator to hack, even thou they died laughing that I did that. But I do use Advanced controls when my main objective will be to supply cover fire and try taking out the APT/AVT and the enemy.
One thing I do have to agree with you is the weapons do seem to load up slower and I don't like that much. Another thing I find is with the Anansi, I find locking onto the target is slower. I was in like a 3 min air to air battle, very intense. We actually collided a few times, hey if I cant shoot him, I will ram him. Well needless to say, we both sprinted away in opposite directions and we rotated for a death kill, I got around before he did and started to target, by time I had lock on him, he shot and hit me and that was on a lock, and NO, I was not sitting in one spot hovering, and neither was he. Thats the one major dislike about the air craft, the lock on area is way to small, especially for being "advanced" technologies, Hell, todays aircrafts don't have that small of a tracking area, but oh well.Stncold, I agree with you on the AVT/RL's/Obliterators ruining good air to air battles, but I have to say over all performance, I prefer the strogg's Tormentor for if I am being chased my favorite thing is to lead them around towards the allies base then turn left towards the bridge/tunnel and go up and over the mountian, but once over then fly down towards the ground then attach to the mountian and allow the Anansi to fly over and take off and attack from behind. Hopefully when you did it you still have soem health left cause it does cause damage, and once you take out the Anansi, then get out and repair, if you picked that class. This is what i am using in my autoece.cfg file, It has the controls that I am now using to fly, works for both GDF and Strogg flyer's. You just have to type in console before selecting a server "exec autoexec" without the " and ". If you use this then edit the tag section and the name section to your likings, its at the top in the "NAME PORTION".
Code:
//************************************************************************** //***********************[HS] coRpSE Auto exec file************************* //************************************************************************** // //NAME PORTION // seta ui_clanTag "^2YOUR_TAG_HERE" seta ui_name "^9YOUR_NAME_HERE" seta ui_clanTagPosition "0" //1 for after and 0 for befor // //CONSOLE // com_allowConsole "1" // //FPS // seta com_unlockFPS "1" seta com_unlock_timingMethod "0" seta com_unlock_maxFPS "120" seta com_showFPS "1" // //OTHER // seta g_showFireTeamLocation "1" //- Shows location of teammates on Fireteam HUD seta net_clientLagOMeter "0" //- Shows network packet activity seta m_smooth "1" seta net_clientprediction "0" seta g_showHud "1" seta m_smooth "1" seta r_useSMP "0" seta com_showFPS "1" seta g_fov "110" seta g_WeaponSwitchTimeout "0" seta pm_bobroll "0" seta pm_bobpitch "0" seta pm_bobup "0" seta pm_runroll "0.000" seta pm_runpitch "0.000" seta pm_runbob "0.0" seta pm_walkbob "0.0" seta pm_crouchbob "0.0" seta m_strafeSmooth "1" seta r_displayRefresh "120" seta r_megatilespersecond "9999" seta net_clientMaxRate "25000" // //BINDS // bind F9 "clientTeam spectator" bind F12 "toggle g_showHud" bind F11 "toggle com_showFPS" bind pause "toggle r_megadrawmethod" bind "F10" "toggleNetDemo" "" "default" // //Strogg air controls // seta g_bind_context_hornet "stroggair" bind "MOUSE2" "_weapnext" "" "stroggair" bind "MOUSE4" "_tophat" "" "stroggair" bind "e" "_back" "" "stroggair" bind "space" "_forward" "" "stroggair" bind "w" "_sprint" "" "stroggair" bind "s" "_speed" "" "stroggair" bind "2" "_weapon0" "" "stroggair" // //GDF Fliers // g_bind_context_anansi "flyer" g_bind_context_hornet "flyer" bind "mouse2" "_weapnext" "" "flyer" bind "MOUSE4" "_tophat" "" "flyer" bind "e" "_back" "" "flyer" bind "space" "_forward" "" "flyer" bind "w" "_sprint" "" "flyer" bind "s" "_speed" "" "flyer" bind "2" "_weapon0" "" "flyer" // //Vehicle steering & camaramode // seta ui_rememberCameraMode "1" seta g_vehicleSteerKeyScale "2" //The scale of the wheeled vehicle steering keys - 1 is standard, 2 is twice as fast seta r_swapInterval "1" // // Mouse // seta sensitivity "9.0" // sensitivity seta m_smooth "1" // smooth mouse movements seta m_pitch "0.030" // vertical sensitivity scale seta m_yaw "0.030" // // Graphic's // seta com_gpuSpec "1" // Graphics: 0 = low, 1 = med, 2 = high seta com_machineSpec "3" // Processor: 0 = low, 1 = med, 2 = high seta g_decals "1" // bullet mark decals 1 = on, 0 = off seta g_showPlayerShadow "1" // player shadows 1 = on, 0 = off seta r_megaDrawMethod "1" // 0 = high detail, 3 = low detail (big FPS boost) seta r_shadows "1" // other shadows 1 = on, 0 = off seta r_skipMegaTexture "0" // use mega textures 0 = on, 1 = off seta r_skipStuff "0" // foliage and grass 0 = on, 1 = off Took some time to get used to, but it seems to work well, and I am getting better with it each time I use it... Some things in this are set by server and come up with an error saying it cant be changed, but not all servers. but over all it works good...

Over all, it takes the basic flying config for the GDF and the Strogg flyer's, and makes things easier to use. Example: Standard Flight controls: w - Power Up s - Power Down d - Rotate right A - Rotate left 1 - Flairs G - Bail out F- Deploy parachute Shift - Turbo Forward thrust Ctrl - Reverse thrust Mouse wheel Up or down - Change between weapons Mouse 1 - Fire weapon Mouse Left and Right movement is the Roll Mouse Up and Down movement is the pitch What my config does is make everything a little easier to control, making all the controls so your not bending your fingers backwards to pull of some things. Its more of a relaxed state that my config is set up. My Flight Controls: Space - Power up (use thumb for that) E - Power down, (use mostly to land.) W - Forward thrust S - Reverse Thrust (Great for staying somewhat still and aiming down by lowering the pitch with mouse.) D - Rotate right A - Rotate left 1 - Flairs G - bail out F - Deploy Parachute Mouse 2 - Switch weapons (Allot faster the mouse wheel) Mouse 1 - Fire weapon Mouse 4 - Free look (which allows you to aim at targets without moving the position of the aircraft. easier and faster lock-on's) Mouse Left and Right movement is the Roll Mouse Up and Down movement is the pitch It makes it so your not stretching or bending your fingers backwards to pull off a reverse thrust maneuver with nose pitched down. Well that is for the controls. The others is your clan tags. name, Binds in which like F9 - F12 control Stuff shown on your screen and Recording demos. Others is graphic settings with minimal loss of FPS, There's stuff in there about your mouse saying how sensitive it will be to movement, meaning what could take about 6 inchs of movement of the mouse to the right to turn right may take 4 inches or 3, Just makes it so its a little more sensitive. There is other coding in there that alters you FOV, (Field of View), which in best discription is giving your self a little more peripheral view on things by compressing it a little, I have it set not to much over standard but enough over to help a little. Other's help eliminate the bobbing action of running and walking. I hope this helps a little... There is others but I think I covered most of it.

The was one battle I had yesterday, I think it had to be about 4 or 5 min air to air battle, I was in the Anansi and what ended the battle was me maneuvering over him and use reverse thrust and pitching the nose downward and fired a whole bunch of LAW missiles and rockets at the top of him. I just wish I was recording for that one cause there were some really tough maneuvers pulled off in that one. I will post a new thread once done also it will be posted on my clans website as soon as it is done. Thanks. More tips will come soon enough as stated above.
