Default Hacking Shield Tactics + Video.

Ok i don't know if this really counts as a tactic or w/e but it works. It works a lot better when you have a buddy to help u and run in from different angles.

Always try to throw your 2 grenades before running in the shield as they usually are mined up the ass. The proximity mines will have a big splash explosion that will hopefully kill some defenders along with your grenade. Another thing is to try and throw a Third-Eye Camera every time you go and detonated it on your trip back and throw a new one. Try to keep the camera near the shield so it can also blow any mines.

I've had the most success with a fireteam of three players. 1 field opts and 2 covert ops. Take the armadillo together and choose one of the many entrances and let your field opts throw an airstrike canister. This should wipe out any mines/defenders in the area along with your nades and camera. Both Covert opts rush in from 2 sides and hack away. I usually don't bother fighting back because thats time spent not hacking and there will usually be more then one enemy attacking you so it's a loosing battle. Hack as much as you can.

Spawn, Rinse and Repeat... from different angles each time. Sometimes is good to drive up in different vehicles so you don't all get wiped out in one lucky plasma shot or such. Field opts will be the key to clear the area as the enemy artillery interceptor can't blow those.

I hope this helps.

Great tactic.

Yes, we have one of ours who hits the shield within 30 seconds of securing the MCP. He is going to go down but he gets that ball rolling, which as you have proven, is so, so important to set the stage for the followup assaults on the shield.

Nice post Dom.

The tactic i use is to take a suit from the spawnkillers in GDF base then go to radar, see what's the strogg respawn time and when it's the right moment i backstab the stroggs that are around and hack the shield gen

I hope they make the hack reset if you get killed because really, that shit is lame.

And 1 anti personnel turret will ruin your tactic.

Hey, it's their fault for being more interested in kill whoring, rather than having a decent sized squad watching the objective.

There's a bug in Demo Replay mode where the timers dont show up on the objective timer doesnt show up on the HUD and the Server Time display doesnt update either. We planted 2 c4's at almost the exact same time, the engi thought it was just one, so he disarmed mine (grr) and proceeded to plant mines while the other guy's c4 blew up 10 seconds before the match ended : - ) So all my hacking suicide runs payed off.

Why should it reset? there could be more coverts up showing up. It's a valid tactic to an already hard to complete objective. STrogg spawn right on it and we spawn 3 miles away.

1 anti personnel turret willl not ruin this tactic, there are only 2 spots to put turrets in there and they dont cover the whole thing. As i come in i can spot the turrets with no problem and throw a grenade at it and that will disable it for 30 seconds...

The solution to hack the objective is: play with consicious gdf players who actually want to win not just camp and 'countersnipe' in some bush all the time.
Most games i play and i try to hack.. i almost always reach the generator and manage to hack it a bit or fully sometimes (the third eye really helps). But because some mysterious reasons the other 5 coverts dont even touch it ever in most cases and the match is hopeless. All the time when i got supporting team members at shield gen, or someone continues my hack we win the game if the time is enough.

I know i expect a bit too much from a pub game.. but then dont fkin whine about valleys so imbalanced and hard for gdf if u dont even want/try to win and its very common problem!

On my first attempt to hack I often toss a 3rd eye on the generator (jump and throw will have the thing sitting in a hard to notice spot) and leave it there as a on the spot radar, very usefull for team mates to spot the Strogg, even if they take down the main radars.

That is a common thing for pubs as you know. That's why i often have to rely on this method as there's no way in hell you'd ever fight off all the defenders on your own in order to hack it freely.

Yeah nice vid. I actually tend to go medic for that stage (lately I've been a medic the whole round despite my preferences for other classes on GDF) because everyone seems to forget about revives or something. I've gotten the "clutch" revive on a covy several times because the Strogg are usually intent on spawnhosting or re-mining the area as soon as possible. I just hang back a second, rush in, pop the rez, run out, maybe do some damage if the situation calls for it. It's also amazing how easily the Strogg can be lured away from that objective... last night I got 4 guys chasing after me all the way down into the sewer/underground water area... they knew I had gotten quick revives on a few other attempts so I guess I was a big threat to them, but after 4 of them went for me, hacking for the Covert Op I arrived with on that run was pretty easy at that point.

Well ain't gonna work on me

I have a habit of making sure everyone Unconscious enemy I see goes back to limbo. (after all blaster ammo is free or I could use spikes) Unless theres a medic nearby. When that happens I'll just toss a grenade onto the body and run away. Then someone like you might stroll along to revive and BOOM!

But yeah, some peeps just don't do that....

I do the same thing... if you are using the 3rd eye camera to clear defenders while your trying to hack... your a noob (sorry). The radar given from throwing it high beats out destroying mines which are easily killed with a grenade. I'd rather see how many and where the Strogg are with the 3rd eye opon one of my bumrushes to hack rather than waste it.

The Armadillo does rule though... you can fit through the gaps on the sides and simply drive in circles around the hack obj, killing many Strogg and blowing any mines. I usually get 5-10 kills easily in a short time doing this.

you dont need grenades to remove the mines from the shield..

just go fast to them to activate, then go behind a sidewall of the shield left/right near to you and you are secure,
its pretty funny to walk around and let all the mines explode

Hmmm, pretty efficient that hack rush.. I thought about it, but deemed it impossible.. Seems not to be.. Just be relentless and hope for fast vehicles each spawn..

Drive the APC out of the rear of the first main base... drive along the coast, it is easy at speed... you emerge behind the contaminator building, drive past the Strogg spawn and right into the back door of the objective.

that wont happen vs good players youll be dead before you get a chance to hack gfd need to clear it out as a team and then hack and defend the hackers from stoggs spawning but to get that kind of teamplay on a public is asking to much me thinks LOL . =)
