Can someone explain your rank and how it works?

I was playing the Demo last night for about four hours, Strogg and I got to rank 16 or 17. After a few maps still in Strogg I then went back to private. Is that right? Now if you earn a rank in the demo version does it transfer to the retail version? I have searched the forums and cannot find any info regarding "Rank" etc.

Could someone take some time and explain it please.

You earn ranks in game during a campaign (usually 3 maps). After the campaign ends, all in game rankings are reset to zero.

The in game ranking is completely separate from the persistent stats/rankings which will be available when the final game is released. The persistent ranking does not give you any bonus during in game play and is mainly there for you to keep track of your progress and, well..for bragging rights I suppose.

All of this is quite interesting but, is there a list of all the 30 or so ranks? I made Commander today and I have no idea where that would place in the ranks. Its higher than Major-Colonel, (or whatever that goofy rank was), and I dont know whats after that.

The Strogg only list ranks by number with a symbol.

supreame commander is insane. took me like an hour of play on SP against bots. but once i got that 740xp or whatever it took, it was sweet.
